# Check a promise somebody made you

**Paste what you were told and we will say whether that company publishes
that line and stands behind it.** We do not keep what you paste, we do not ask
who you are, and we will not tell you whether the company is a customer of
ours.

<!-- form: verify -->

## What the three answers mean

**Yes — this company publishes this line and stands behind it.** The company
has chosen to publish that line here, an owner's name is against it, and it is
current. If anything about it changes, the answer on this page changes with it.

**This is not something this company has published.** That does not mean it is
untrue, and it does not mean nobody said it. Companies publish some of what
they stand behind and not all of it. The thing to do with an answer like this
is ask them.

**We cannot tell from what you pasted.** A sentence or two of the exact wording
works best. Paste what you were told rather than a summary of it.

## What this page will not tell you

| | |
|---|---|
| Who said it | Nothing here names a person, a team or a piece of software |
| When it was last checked | The answer is about today |
| How close you got | There is no score and no *nearly* |
| Whether the company uses Reynforce | A company we have never heard of and a company that has not switched this on get the same answer |

That last one is deliberate and it is worth saying out loud: **we will not tell
you whether a company is a customer of ours.** Which companies use Reynforce is
their business to say, not ours.

## What happens to what you paste

Nothing. It is compared against the lines that company publishes and
discarded — there is nowhere in our records for it to go, which is a fact
about how this is built rather than a promise about our habits. What is kept
is that a question was asked about that company, which of the three answers
came back, and how long the paste was. Not the paste.

The company can see that count. They cannot see what you asked.

## Why a company would turn this on

Because the alternative is a buyer having to take an email on trust. A company
that publishes the lines it stands behind can be checked, and one that cannot
be checked is asking for the benefit of the doubt.
