# How do I roll out AI agents in sales without legal blocking it?

**Stop asking one person to sign for everything.** Put a named owner against
each thing the agent relies on, so legal signs for the terms, the CRO for
discounts and RevOps for the data — and show the record of what the agent
says, so each of them can see what they are answering for.

Agent projects rarely stall because the agent does not work. They stall
because approving it means signing for things you cannot see. A CRO can
answer for discounts. They cannot answer for whether the security page is
current or a certification has lapsed, so asked to sign for all of it, they
say no.

## The order that works

1. **Write down what the agent will rely on**, line by line, with an owner on
each. This is an afternoon for most companies, not a project — one run of
the exercise took sixty to ninety minutes. The gaps you find are the
   findings.
2. **Agree what it may promise**, as separate decisions rather than one
risk appetite. Three of them are closed for everyone, which settles the
   question legal usually starts with.
3. **Run it watching first.** The agent asks before it acts and everything is
written down, but nothing is held back yet. A few weeks of that is evidence
   rather than a pitch.
4. **Show legal the record**, not the plan: what was said, what it relied on,
   what was flagged.
5. **Open more as it is earned**, one permission at a time, each tied to
something the company has made reliable.

## What legal will ask, and what to bring

| they ask | bring |
|---|---|
| what can it commit us to? | the permissions, each with its reason |
| where does it get its facts? | the list of lines and their owners |
| what has it actually said? | the record |
| who approved it? | the named owners, and who signed off the rules |

## What makes it slower

Approving the agent rather than the information. Every time a price changes
or a certificate renews, an approval of the agent has to be revisited; an
owner on the line just updates the line.

## What this does not do

It does not get you legal sign-off. It gives the people signing something
specific to sign for, and a record afterwards.
